Jacob Bankston brings a lifelong passion for the performing arts, a deep love of harmony, and a vibrant educational background to his role as Music Director of A Cappella Texas. Introduced to the stage at age four under the influence of his mother, a theater director and choreographer, Jacob grew up immersed in both choir and theater. He performed leading roles in musicals throughout his school years, was selected for the prestigious Texas All-State Choir, and even brought Shakespeare to life onstage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
Jacob earned his degree in Music Education from Louisiana State University on a full scholarship, performing in the university’s choral and opera programs and starring in a local equity theater production. It was during his senior year at LSU that he discovered barbershop harmony — a spark that would lead to years of singing with the Houston Tidelanders and Space City Sound, including appearances at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Contest. He continued performing in community choirs and theater while also coaching vocal and theater programs for middle and high school students.
As a public school choir director, Jacob transformed his program from struggling to standout, leading multiple ensembles to sweepstakes ratings and earning top regional honors for student musicians. He also directed and choreographed large-scale musical productions and pop shows, continuing his mission to make the arts accessible and exciting for students.
Since joining A Cappella Texas in 2022, Jacob has served as Baritone Section Leader, Vice President of Music, and was honored as Barbershopper of the Year in 2023. After stepping in as Interim Director in early 2025, he was officially named Music Director in July. He brings to the role a spirit of collaboration, a commitment to musical excellence, and the belief that great singing begins with joyful connection.
